Birthday Dinner At Bangalore

JONESTOWN: Suburbia

When in 1898 Sir Ebenezer Howard wrote the book "Garden Cities of To-morrow "and founded the movement urban garden city figured little in what would become subject to the laws of the market and property speculation.

cities were conceived as a community garden surrounded by green belts with a mixture of uses (residential, industrial and agricultural) carefully planned. They have a high percentage of public land for green areas particular to avoid speculation and most of its inhabitants work in the city itself, so that it produces enough food for self. They are inspired by the description of future urban planning in the novel "Looking Backward" Edward Bellamy, published in 1888, which has a socialist utopia in 2000. The first of these cities was Letchworth, 55 miles north of London, founded in 1903 and then followed by other groups mainly in England and the U.S..

Diagram 3 magnets (city, country, city and country) of Ebenezer Howard, which represents the city and the countryside with their strengths and weaknesses and proposes the new concept of city garden is to combine the best of the above.

The garden city was very successful in the U.S.. Over time the garden cities gave way to suburban garden where the initial idea of \u200b\u200bcommunity disappears and they become dormitory towns. During World War II the U.S. government and the media publicized the image of the ideal family in their suburban house and garden. The post-war economic boom made it possible for the families of the time these developments were installed in pursuing the American dream . Given that the U.S. took over leadership culture that traditionally had held Europe this model was exported throughout the world. And so, every middle class family income which allowed it happened to want a house in the suburbs. And yet they want!
The pre-crisis economic growth in Spain led to thousands of families saw in the desired position to buy the suburban family home. They have done so because they wanted to. It can and should criticize the government's position, municipalities and banks. But the reality is that nobody builds a promotion that does not meet market demand. People buy houses because they want and whenever they have money will continue.
