ROUTE 17 APRIL 2010 COVA DO DEMO-CUCKOO'S PEAK (BOAL)

Route description:
is undoubtedly the most attractive and spectacular route that we can do within the council Boal, in the west of Asturias, in which we look interesting items archaeological, ethnographic and landscape.
The route begins in the village of Doiras, in an area called The Escaleira, where part of the road begins a gentle slope that leads to a small local road with no traffic. Here we begin to enjoy the stunning scenery of this area of \u200b\u200bcouncil Asturian Boal, very abrupt and large cut, overlooking the river bottom Urubio. Gradually
population Froseira spotted in the valley, which later visit. Continue the path and reach the bridge Llanza in the small gorge that forms the river in this area.
After few meters turn off on the left towards the Cova do Demo, beginning the climb hard without rest, leads to the same, introducing us to a beautiful indigenous forest with an abundance of strawberry and later in a large chestnut souto.
The path is becoming increasingly uncomfortable to usher in a rocky, but the compensation of the effort comes to reaching the spectacular Cova do Demo, well hidden in the base of a rocky cliff Llanteiru Pico, which was discovered in 1983 .
Inside, authentic paintings made about 2500 BC by prehistoric man. The paintings are red with representations of humans, animals and geometric abstractions, which dot the cave walls about 15 feet deep and 8 feet high.
After contemplating this natural and archaeological wonders, we continue our journey through a very difficult path, which must pay close attention to follow, sometimes intuitively, and hard by a stony rises in the middle of a beautiful souto in which we can admire various corripas, circular structures that were used to store the nuts and protect them from voracious animals.
After this point, we follow a trail through a spectacular area of \u200b\u200bvertical walls with great views until it joins some larger way. From here, a few meters, turn-off to tackle the final climb and by area of \u200b\u200bforest with less vegetation for a small path that leads to the base of Pico del Cuco, a cabin where you can take shelter in an emergency.
The final climb to the peak is very easy and quickly reached the summit, at an altitude of 766 meters. From here we have one of the best views of the whole council, overlooking much of the towns and surrounding peaks, along the beautiful reservoir Doiras. After relaxing for a while and enjoy the scenery, and now we go down the track that always goes down for several miles by several Souter and native forests to reach the first crossing the river Urubio.
Follow the path until you enter Froseira, a village very interesting from an ethnographic perspective, which is only a permanent resident, Mrs. Otilia.
