2011: INTERNATIONAL YEAR OF PHOTOSYNTHESIS BY CHEMICAL BARRELS
The UN has declared 2011 as International Year of Chemistry, in order to celebrate the achievements of chemistry and its contribution humanity.
The year 2011 coincides with the commemoration of several important milestones in the development of chemistry. In particular, marks the centenary of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, Marie Curie, and is, thus, an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of women to science. In addition, we commemorate the centennial of the founding of the International Association of Chemical Societies, the forerunner of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. And it also celebrates the 350 anniversary of the publication of The Sceptical Chymist by Robert Boyle in 1661, marking the origin of chemistry and modern science. More information here
